Description

The building at 1 Cornhill appears to date from the early 19th century, but is likely to be either 16th or 17th century in origin. It is timber-faced and has a stucco finish. The building is three storeys high, with a roof hidden behind a parapet. The ground floor features 19th-century shopfronts on both the north and west elevations, characterised by panelled pilasters and elaborate carved consoles supporting the entablature. A canted oriel window, featuring sash windows and a moulded cornice, is positioned on the first floor. The north elevation has three ranges of sash windows, one of which has a moulded frame and cornice. A slight projection at the corner suggests the presence of a bressummer. Building 1 forms a group with All Saints Church and numbers 21 to 26 (inclusive) High East Street.
