Description

The stable block to Old Bryanston House, located 20 meters west of Portman Chapel, is a structure likely built in the mid to late 18th century. It features English bond brickwork and has a roof that is partly slated and partly tiled, arranged in a U-shape around a central courtyard. The building is single storey and partially lofted, with a symmetrical design. Each block includes central carriageways, and the main block is highlighted by a pedimented centerpiece that is defined by rusticated ashlar quoins. The central archway features a rusticated ashlar architrave, and there is a rusticated round window in the pediment. The round-headed windows are adorned with gauged brick heads and glazing bars. Attached to the north-west is a cottage that was formerly a coach-house, which has wide elliptically headed openings that are now blocked.
