BRYANSTON ST 80 NE BRYANSTON OLD BUILDINGS

5/27 Stable block to Old Bryanston House 20m 14-7-55 west of Portman Chapel (formerly listed on Stables to Bryanston House)

GV II

Stable block, probably mid to late C18. English bond brickwork with hipped part slated and part tiled roofs. U-plan around central courtyard. Single storey, partially lofted. Symmetrical. Each block has central carriageways. Main block has pedimented centrepiece defined by rusticated ashlar quoins. Central archway has rusticated ashlar architrave. Rusticated round window in pediment. Round headed windows with gauged brick heads and glazing bars. Attached to the north-west is a cottage, formerly a coach-house with blocked, wide elliptically headed openings.
