Description
This probable icehouse, located approximately 8 meters south of Alton Pancras Manor, is thought to date from the 17th century. It is constructed of brick in English bond and features a pointed brick vault. The doorway is made of stone and has a three-centred head with a straight chamfer and continuous, stopped jambs. There is a folding wooden plank door. The vaulted chamber is partly underground and divided into two sections, with one part having been used for cider-making. The icehouse is integrated into a later range of brick outbuildings that have tiled gable ends.
