Description
No 2 Shorts Lane is a single cottage that is attached to a former smithy. It has a core dating from the 17th century, with an 18th-century ceiling and 20th-century changes to the windows. The cottage features lias rubble walls and a pantile roof with stone gable copings. There are brick stacks at both the left and right gables. The building is one and a half storeys tall and has three windows, which are 2- and 3-light casements with wooden cills and lintels, all from the 20th century. The front door is centrally located, made of wood with two glass lights, also from the 20th century.
Inside, the roof is of jointed-cruck construction but has been significantly altered, with one chamfered purlin remaining. The ground floor ceiling beam has a slight chamfer and filleted stops, dating to the early 18th century. There is a half-spiral stair beside the fireplace. The attached former smithy on the left side also has lias rubble walls and a slate roof, with a garage entrance present on the left. Additionally, there is one 2-light iron casement window with glazing bars.
