Description

The Lower Barracks is a terrace of three cottages, originally four, likely dating from the mid-19th century. The cottages are constructed of rubble stone with slate roofs, featuring coped gables and stone eaves courses. Brick stacks are positioned on the ridge. The arrangement includes a central open passageway leading to the rear. Number one has an entrance within a small link building attached to the New Inn. Number two has a partly glazed door, while number three has a ledged door. The ground floor has six casement windows with glazing bars, each set beneath a projecting stone lintel. The first floor has four similar windows, but without the projecting lintels. A front boundary wall, built of stone with rough coping, stone piers, and simple iron gates, runs along the front. The terrace is included on the listing for its contribution to the wider group value of buildings in the area.
