Description
41 West Street is a 18th-century building constructed of red brick with a pitched tile roof and stone slates above the eaves. The first floor features two sashes with glazing bars set in moulded frames. The ground floor has a contemporary bowed shopfront that includes glazing bars, moulded pilasters, and capitals with paterae. It is topped with a full entablature that has elaborate modillions and a dentilled cornice. The entrance features a six-panelled door, with four fielded panels, surrounded by fielded panelled reveals and soffit. This door is flanked by moulded pilasters with capitals that also have paterae. Above the door is a semi-circular fanlight, supported by cut brackets with a herringbone pattern on the outer surfaces, which holds a flat hood of concave plan that continues the entablature of the shopfront. The building also displays the badge of the Lord of the Manor. Nos 33 to 43 (odd) form a group with this property.
