Description
The Albion Hotel and Chandlers Wine Shop, located at No 19 on the east side of High Street, is a building from the 18th century that was part of the former New Inn. The main elevation features rendered walls and a tiled roof with a stone course at the eaves. The structure has two storeys and attics, with an arched opening that connects it to the Square Post Office, leading to a yard at the rear. There is a pedimented hood supported by console brackets above the arch. The shop front is modern, while the first floor has two double-hung sash windows. The north elevation, which faces the yard, primarily contains modern doors and windows. At the rear, there is a range of single-storey outbuildings with brick walls and tiled roofs. Although the interior is not accessible, it is noted by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England that it contains a staircase similar to that found in No 15.
