Description
This is an 18th-century building, originally part of the former New Inn. The main elevation has rendered walls and a tiled roof with a stone course at the eaves. It is two storeys high with an attic. The ground floor has a modern shop front, while the first floor features two double-hung sash windows. A dormer window with a hipped roof and casements is located in the attic.
The north elevation, which faces the yard, has exposed brick walls with a plat band at first-floor level. The ground floor has three blocked windows with segmental arches, and the first floor contains one double-hung sash window with glazing bars and an earlier timber mullioned and transomed window with lead lights. A large modern extension is situated at the rear.
Internally, the room facing the square has fine 18th-century raised panelling, a semi-circular niche with carved ornament in the head, shaped shelves framed by moulded pilasters, a moulded ceiling cornice, a raised-panelled door, and an 18th-century fireplace surround (now blocked). The original 18th-century staircase to the attic features turned balusters and a moulded handrail.
