Description
Lyston House is a Grade II* listed building, likely constructed between 1731 and the mid-18th century. It features a two-storey façade with five windows and two hipped dormers. The eaves cornice is enriched with modillions but is in rather poor repair. The building is made of typical brickwork, with brick quoin pilasters, a plinth, and a string course. The central section of the façade projects slightly. The sash windows have wide glazing bars and brick keys, with sunk aprons, except for the central first-floor window, which has a raised apron. The doorway is flanked by narrow pilasters and topped with a pedimented hood supported by moulded and voluted brackets. The original railings have been removed. To the right, there is an early 19th-century lower projecting wing. Aside from the possibly altered doorway, this building presents a very well-preserved example of a small Georgian brick front. Inside, there is a staircase, fielded panelling in the front room, and a fireplace. Lyston House is part of a group with Nos 28 to 42 (even) and the Dry Cleaners.
