Description

The Tithe Barn, located 40 metres north-west of Court Farmhouse, is a barn from the former monastic Grange, dating from the 14th to 15th century. It features rubble-stone walls topped with slate roofs. The east gable has stone coping with a pyramidal stop, while the west coping is missing. A large porch is positioned to the right of the centre on the south side. This porch includes diagonal buttresses with a plinth and two set-offs. The entrance has straight chamfered jambs and a segmental head, leading to four plank doors with strap hinges. There is also a pedestrian doorway in the east wall of the porch, which has a four-centred head and straight-chamfered jambs. The porch is capped with stone gable-coping and a crocketed finial.

Inside, the roof is constructed in five bays, featuring an arch-braced collar beam supported by jointed raised crucks. There are two slip-tenons at the joint and two sets of through-purlins, with remnants of wind-bracing still visible. The arch-braces are slightly chamfered, while the ridge and sub-rafters have been renewed. The Tithe Barn is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
