Description
The Boot Inn is a mid-17th century inn that has undergone significant internal modifications. It features a rendered exterior and a slate roof. The building has a single-depth, two-heated-room plan with gable stacks, and it may have originally included a cross-passage.
It stands two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are recessed hollow-chamfer stone mullioned casements. At the eaves level, there are three four-light windows, and on the ground floor, there are two five-light windows, both with labels. The central entrance door, dating from the 19th century, has a transom light and is flanked by sidelights, all set under a straight lintel.
To the left gable, there is a brick stack, while the right gable features a rendered stack. This wall also includes a doorway located to the south of the fireplace. The rear of the building has two-light small-pane casements, a central lean-to extension, and a flat-roofed addition. Some transverse moulded beams are still visible on the ground floor. The Boot Inn is a rare example of a building in an area of Weymouth that experienced extensive clearance during the mid-20th century.
