Description
Duke Terrace is a planned group of four cottages dating from the mid-19th century in Launceston. The cottages are built of slatestone rubble with dressings of volcanic stone, featuring steep dry Delabole slate roofs with coped gables and moulded kneelers. Brick end, axial, and lateral stacks, some of which are rendered, provide ventilation. The three blocks follow an irregular plan, with a pair of cottages flanked by two similar mirror-image designs.
The cottages are two storeys high, with a 2:4:2-window range. Each house has a large front gable and one gabled dormer, except for number 3, which has two gabled dormers. Mullioned 2-light windows with casements and glazing bars are common, with the exception of a single 3-light window on the ground floor of each cottage. Nos. 3 and 4 both feature gabled porches with doorways having 4-centred arches and 4-panel, top-glazed doors. The interior has not been inspected.
