Description

The churchyard walls, gateways, and gates of the Church of St Stephen in Launceston are likely from the 18th century, with the gate-piers and gates dating from the mid to late 19th century. The walls are constructed from slatestone and granite rubble, while the gate-piers are made of dressed granite. The west gateway features large square terminal piers with moulded bases, stepped pyramidal caps, and low granite-coped walls. It also has ramped iron railings flanking smaller gate-piers that support a pair of cross-braced gates with a ramped top rail. The south gateway includes a tall iron gate set between smaller fence jambs, topped with an intricate scrolled panel.
