4/54 Barn and mangel house at approx 100 metres south west of Godolphin House
GV II
Barn with shippons and mangel house. Circa mid C19. Granite rubble walls with dressed granite quoins, sills, jambstones and lintels. Cement-washed scantle slate roof with dressed granite coped gable ends. L-shaped plan plus mangel house adjoining the far outside rear corner of the east- west range. Principal openings on the inside angle of the L, i.e. north and east fronts. Granite steps lead to loading door at the left hand (east) gable end. There was formerly a mill wheel to operate barn and mangel slicing machinery at the opposite (west) end, powered by water from a storage pond. The rear openings correspond to those at the front. 2 storeys. Symmetrical north face has 3 openings on each floor with doorway at left and right; window over each doorway and central loading door over ground floor window. The east face of the wing adjoining at a right angle to right matches, but first, floor loading door is in left hand bay. Ledged and braced doors; some first floor windows retain original glazing with 12-pane fixed light over transom with mullion separating 2 small shutters below. Interior : original roof structure, but floors and fittings all removed. Part of a group of farm buildings relating to Godolphin House (qv).
