Description
The Mevagissey War Memorial is an early 20th-century structure made of roughly-dressed granite. It features a Celtic cross with an incised edge detail on the column, standing on a square plinth with rounded corners and a square base. On the south-east side of the plinth, there is a dressed-granite inset that bears an inscription in black metal lettering. The inscription reads:
TO THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN / HONOURED MEMORY OF THE MEN OF / MEVAGISSEY / WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR / 1914 – 1918/ (NAMES) / 1939 – 1945 / (NAMES)
This inscription commemorates thirty-one men who lost their lives in the First World War and twelve men who died in the Second World War.
