Description

House. Built around the mid-18th century, with an earlier 18th-century wing to the rear. The house is constructed of rendered rubblestone, with granite strings and rusticated granite quoins at the base. It has an asbestos slate roof and rendered brick stacks at the hipped ends, with a further rendered stack to the rear. The rear wing has slate hanging on the south front’s right-hand gable end.

The house follows a single-depth plan, with the rear wing extending to the rear and including an outshut. The main range is two storeys high with a basement, and has a symmetrical west front with three windows. The basement has two 16-pane sashes without horns, flanking a panelled door. The ground floor features three 20-pane sashes (top 8-pane) without horns, and the first floor has three 16-pane sashes above. Deep, overhanging eaves are present. A stair window with a round-headed sash is positioned on the left-hand side.

The rear wing has two storeys and a nearly symmetrical south front with three windows. The ground floor features two double sashes with glazing bars in the top lights, flanking a panelled door. Above, two double sashes with glazing bars are visible on the right, and in the top lights of the left-hand sash. A wooden bellcote, with a square plan, corner posts, shaped valences, a cavetto cornice, and an ogee hipped lead roof, sits on the ridge near the centre. The interior has not been inspected.

The Haye family held the Haye estate from at least the 14th century.
