Description

House. Built in the early 18th century, with a rear wing likely dating to the 17th century. The house is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with a gabled stone slate roof. It has symmetrical stone end stacks with brick quoins and tops. The layout is L-shaped, including a rear wing to the left. The house is two storeys high with a three-window front. It features consoles supporting a flat hood over a 19th-century six-panelled door with four glazed panes. There are flat stone arches above eight-pane sash windows with thick glazing bars, and a moulded wood cornice. The rear wing is built of similar materials, is one storey with an attic, and has been extended to a three-window range. It has a brick ridge stack and two two-light leaded casements on the left side.

Inside, the house has two-panelled doors. A central, narrow hall contains an early 18th century dog-leg staircase with a winder and turned balusters on a closed string. A room to the right includes a chamfered beam and an eared architrave to the fireplace, which adjoins a china closet. On the first floor, there is a chamfered beam and a fireplace to the right, and a panelled surround to a window seat and cupboard to the left. The roof is a five-bay collar-truss design with butt purlins. The rear wing features a large back kitchen with a chamfered spine beam with run-out stops, an inglenook fireplace with built-in seats and saltboxes, and joints on the front elevation indicating that the window arrangement has been altered, likely from an original five bays to the present three-window range.
