Description

This is an early 17th-century house situated on the A338. It is constructed of uncoursed limestone rubble with a gabled thatch roof, featuring a brick ridge stack. The house follows a two-unit lobby-entry plan, with one storey and an attic. The front facade has a two-window range of irregularly placed windows. A 20th-century timber lintel sits above the entrance door, which has a pentice roof, and 20th-century windows are also present. A two-light leaded dormer casement illuminates the attic space. A small outshut is attached to the rear. To the right of the original structure, a one-storey, one-bay extension is built from limestone rubble with a Welsh slate roof. Inside, the room on the left side of the house retains a full set of chamfered spine beams with run-out stops and joists. A gun rack is positioned above the open fireplace, which has a moulded bressumer and is flanked by old plank doors. The first floor of the house has not been inspected, but is likely to be of interest.
