Description

The barns adjoining the northwest of Crasken Farmhouse are likely granaries and fodder stores over wagon sheds and shippons, with part converted into living accommodation. They date from the mid to late 19th century and are constructed from granite rubble with granite dressings. The roofs are made of grouted scantle slate and feature gable ends, but are hipped at the junction.

The buildings have a U-shaped plan. The range of two barns next to the house is partly built into the bank at the rear, with rear first-floor loading doorways accessed by two flights of granite steps. The former threshing floor is located in the lower right-hand barn, which is now used as accommodation. The other range, projecting in front of the left-hand end, was likely a hayloft with shippons underneath.

The exterior is two storeys high and remains largely unspoiled, retaining its original window and doorway openings, as well as many old boarded doors with original hinges. Most windows are likely 20th-century 12-pane, 2-light casements. Inside, the barns feature old floors and original roof structures.
