SW6427 CHURCH STREET 631-1/4/47 (West side) Penberthy tombs and cross approx. 8 metres west of Church of St Michael

GV II

Cross set on pair of large chest tombs and headstone. Cross possibly pre-Conquest or medieval; headstone 1783 to Henry Penberthy, d.1783 aged 64; others probably mid C19. Dressed granite except for slate with incised inscription set into headstone with low-pitched head. 2 linked rectangular tombs. The cross is a wheelhead with a flared Greek cross in relief set over the monolithic side of the chest tomb which has incised inscription "PENBERTHY".
