Description

Lower Tresmorn is a farmhouse that likely has a 16th century core, with alterations from the 17th century and an addition from the late 19th or early 20th century. The building is constructed from rendered slatestone rubble and features a slate roof. The original structure is one room deep and has a through passage plan that separates the hall from the kitchen. There is a blocked fireplace and a truncated stack on the rear wall, along with a turret to the right that houses the stairs. The right gable end projects outward, and the kitchen includes a stack and a cloam oven.

The farmhouse underwent significant remodelling in the late 17th century, which included a rear outshut and a large lateral stack on the front wall. A 20th century extension to the outshut is positioned at right angles to the main range.

To the left of the main range is a two-storey, two-bay addition with a hipped roof, which is taller than the original structure by half a storey. The early range is two storeys high and three windows wide, featuring a projecting lateral stack that is shouldered on the right side and partly obscured by a slate-roofed, enclosed, off-centre porch. The windows have been replaced with 20th century casements. The roof was raised around 1920.

Inside, there are grooves for a cross passage screen on a large roll-moulded ceiling beam with bar stops. Other ceiling beams also have bar stops and scratch mouldings. A massive granite fireplace is located at the lateral stack, complete with a chamfered lintel and jambs, the right-hand jamb featuring a diamond stop. The ground floor room on the right is accessed through a door with an ogee lintel and an incised cross. The stair turret, which has slatestone stairs, is entered through a door with an ogee lintel as well. Much of the early wall plaster remains intact on the ground floor. The roof was inaccessible at the time of the survey.
