Description

The remains of a castle located at the mouth of the river in Fowey date back to the late 15th century. This blockhouse was constructed following the French attack that resulted in the burning of the town in 1457. There is a similar structure on the opposite side of the river, and a chain was once slung between the two for defense. The small square tower is made of stone rubble and is now in ruins, appearing decayed on a chart of defenses from the reign of Henry VIII.
