Description
Ferry Quay consists of two adjoining houses with raised pavements at the front, dating from the 18th century. The buildings are constructed of shale rubble, with No 23 painted, featuring slate sills, freestone flat arches, and wooden lintels. The roof is steeply pitched, made of scantle slate and asbestos slate, with part grouted using bitumen. A brick chimney is located over the side wall, with a hip on the left and the adjoining gable of No 25 on the right. The eaves project and have a boxed-in cornice.
Originally, the two houses were nearly identical in design, each having two front reception rooms with a passage between them that leads to a central staircase and rear service rooms within outshuts. The passage is now incorporated into No 23. The buildings are two storeys high and feature a regular seven-window range facing the road, with a four-window front for No 23 on the left and a symmetrical three-window front for No 24 on the right. No 23 has one window to the left and one to the right of the doorway, where the right-hand window was originally a doorway to the passage between the houses. The doorway features a recessed eight-panel door. Both houses have 12-pane horned sash windows. No 24 has a hood on moulded brackets over its central doorway and door.
In front, there is a raised cobbled pavement with a rubble retaining wall and four granite steps leading up to the doorway of No 23, with additional steps to the left of the house.
