Description
No. 28 on St John's Hill in Flushing is an 18th-century house located at the end of a row. It features painted shale rubble walls, a granite step, slate sills, and wooden lintels. The roof is made of scantle slate and has a brick chimney on the right gable end, with a later house situated on higher ground to the left. The house has a two-room plan with a central entrance and a small 20th-century extension at the rear. It stands two storeys tall and has a nearly symmetrical three-window front facing the road. The central doorway is flanked by a window on the ground floor, both under the same lintel. Ceiling beams extend over the doorway to support a gable hood. The ground floor features early 19th-century 16-pane hornless sash windows, while the first floor has original 16-pane, two-light casements with thick glazing bars and much crown glass. The interior has not been inspected. In front, there is a cobbled forecourt. This house is one of the few in Flushing that retains its 18th-century windows.
