Description
Ashlake is a house dating from the early 17th century. It is constructed of painted rubblestone and has an asbestos slate roof with gable ends. The building features a rubblestone stack at the left-hand gable end and a rear lateral rubblestone stack serving the hall. It has a single depth, three-room layout with a cross passage and a staircase projection at the rear.
The house is two storeys high with an asymmetrical front that has four windows. On the ground floor, there is a two-light 20th-century casement window and a three-light 20th-century window, both without glazing bars, flanking the entrance. A 20th-century rubblestone porch with modern glazing and a door is set into the side wall. The door features a granite hollow chamfered three-centred arch with jambs that have stops. To the right, there is a 20th-century glazed door in what was previously a window opening. A slate hood extends along the right side above the ground floor window and door. On the upper floor, there are four 20th-century two-light windows, and the eaves line of the roof has been raised. A rubblestone lean-to is present on the left-hand gable end.
Internally, the partitions between the hall and the adjacent room have been removed, and there is a large granite fireplace in the hall. The interior has not been inspected.
