Description
South View is a house from the early 19th century with few alterations. It is built of stone rubble with a stucco front and has a hipped roof covered in slurried slate, featuring ridge tiles and side stacks with brick shafts. The house has a double depth plan, with a central entrance and principal rooms located to the front left and right, each heated by a side stack. There are shallow service rooms at the rear. An addition from the late 19th century on the left side has a one-room plan and is also heated by a stack on the left.
The exterior is two storeys high with a symmetrical front featuring three windows. All windows are early 19th century 12-pane sashes with Gothic margin glazing. The central door is from the 20th century. The left addition has a hipped roof and includes a 20th-century window on both the ground and first floors. The left side has a 20th-century window on the first floor. At the rear, there is a central 18-pane sash window that lights the stair, along with 12-pane sashes on the first floor to the right and left. There is a 20th-century door to the left and a 20th-century window on the ground floor to the right. The interior has not been inspected but may still have good features from the 19th century, such as staircase and joinery details.
