Description
Swindon Villa is a railway carriage that has been converted into a house. It was brought to its current site around 1935 and is believed to be a late 19th century carriage from the Swindon works. The carriage features a corrugated iron roof with gable ends that sit over the curved carriage roof. Most of the window and door openings are original and intact, although some windows at the front have been blocked. There are no new openings, and the carriage retains its original doors and ventilators. Inside, the windows still have straps for raising and lowering, and the doors feature original hinges and locks. A small single-storey addition has been built at the rear, which helps protect that side of the carriage. All internal partitions remain, and it is said that the carriage was originally painted brown and cream. It is likely a Great Western Railway carriage, equipped with six or eight wheels and a bogey at each end.
