Description

Farmhouse. Built in the early to mid-18th century, with later alterations. The farmhouse is constructed of slatestone rubble with granite quoins. It has a two-span slate roof with lead rolls to the ridge and gable ends, and gable end stacks with brick shafts. The building is arranged with a double-depth plan across two parallel ranges, each containing a room on either side, heated by the gable end stacks. Originally, there was a kitchen to the left and an unheated dairy to the right. Attached to the front left is a low, single-story pig house with a pitched slate roof, and on its outer side are three doors. This pig house acts as a screen wall, separating the front garden from the farmyard. The front of the farmhouse is symmetrical, with three windows on each floor. The first floor has three 16-pane sashes, while the ground floor has a 20-pane sash to the left and a 16-pane sash to the right, all windows dating from the 19th century and with cambered brick arches. A central, half-glazed door with an overlight is sheltered by a 20th-century gabled wooden porch. The left side of the house features a small 20th-century lean-to and a 20th-century single light window on the first floor. The right side has a 20th-century 9-pane light window on the ground floor, and a 16-pane sash with a cambered brick arch on the first floor. The rear of the house has 20-pane sashes with cambered brick arches on the ground floor to the left and right, similar 16-pane sashes to the right and left on the first floor, and a central 12-pane sash lighting the staircase. The interior was not inspected, but it may retain original 18th-century features such as a staircase and joinery details.
