Description

A farmhouse, rebuilt in the 17th century and incorporating earlier fabric, with a 20th-century wing. The building is constructed of shale and rubble, with rag slate and Delabole slate roofs. It has an H-shaped plan, and the north-east wing includes earlier walling. A stair is positioned between the front and back wings.

The south-west front has a 1:2:1 bay arrangement. The central section is stuccoed, with a four-panel door to the left and a four-pane sash window to the right. Flanking rubble wings have gabled ends, with an early 18th-century sash window with eighteen panes on the first floor of the left wing. Smaller attic windows are located within the gables (lead glazing was found in one). The roof pitch has been altered. Remnant walls from an earlier house survive in the back and one axial wall of the north-east range, while the south-east wall was likely rebuilt in the 17th century. External stone lateral stacks are located on the side wall of the left wing, at the back of the central spine, and an axial stack is positioned over where a dog-leg stair originally sat. This stair features turned finials and pendants to the newels, early 18th-century cornices, and fielded-panelled shutters to an adjoining room in the front wing. A 17th-century twelve-panel door with stuck mouldings leads to the first room in the back wing, which has a late 18th-century chimney piece. A room beyond, in a partly rebuilt earlier range, has a five-panelled door with bolection mouldings. The main hall fireplace in the central spine has a moulded and stopped lintel. A linked stone retaining wall to the north-west includes a spring and granite trough within a recess.
