Description
The Alverton Manor Hotel's former stable block is a Grade II listed building located on Tregolls Road in Truro. Originally built in the mid-19th century as part of the house that was later converted into the Convent of the Epiphany, the north and west ranges of the stable block date from this period. The south and east ranges were added in the late 19th or early 20th century. The structure is made of stone rubble with some stone and brick dressings, topped with slate roofs, and is arranged around a courtyard.
The west range is two storeys high with a four-bay front that features an entrance on the north side and one gabled dormer. Ground-floor openings are set under two-centred flat stone arches, including three 16-pane sash windows, two similar sash windows on the first floor, a 20th-century casement in the gabled dormer, and another 20th-century casement above the door. The north range, also two storeys, was extended to the east in the early 20th century, featuring brick dressings on the extension and stone arches on the ground floor of the west end. The ground-floor windows on the west side include 16-pane sashes, while the first floor has a mix of 2-, 4-, and 12-pane sashes. There is a half-glazed door on the left of the extension and a blocked doorway on the right. The first floor of the extension, used as a chapel, has two Gothic pivot-hung casements.
The two-storey south range features a brick chimney on the left gable end, a 20th-century entrance on the front at the right, and three 16-pane sashes on both the first and ground floors, all with brick dressings. The east range is a single storey with a hipped roof and an entrance at the north end, along with a 20th-century addition on the west side. Inside, there are seven early 20th-century clothes drying racks on rails that slide into a drying chamber.
