Description
34, 35, and 36 St Austell Street are a pair of houses and a house with a later shop, built in the early 19th century. The buildings are constructed of coursed faced Killas stone with brick arches and feature a grouted scantle slate hipped roof, which has been replaced with asbestos slate over No. 34 on the left. There are brick chimneys located on the side walls. The houses are arranged in a double-depth plan and stand two storeys high with a five-window range.
Keyed semi-circular arches are present over the original six-panel doors of Nos. 35 and 34, as well as over a 20th-century half-glazed door next to the shop, all of which have painted fanlights. The shop has a complete three-light late 19th-century shop front with an original pair of doors flanked by pilasters, topped with a moulded entablature and fascia. Keyed segmental arches are found over the windows. No. 34 features 20th-century windows, while the other houses retain their original 16-pane hornless sashes, including two windows on the right-hand return wall. The right corner of the building is splayed. The interior of the shop has been altered in the 20th century and was not inspected.
