Description

This former poor house, dating from 1829 to 1832, is now two private residences. It is constructed of local killas rubble with granite dressings, featuring an asbestos slate roof on the left-hand side and a concrete tile roof on the right. Stuccoed gables are present at the front, resting on granite kneelers. The building follows a fairly large double-depth plan and is designed in a Tudor Gothic style at the front, forming an E-shape with projecting gable-ended central and end wings. Two-storey entrance porches are located at the angles between the end wings. The front features four-centred arched doorways to the porches, and four-light wooden mullioned windows. Transoms and hoodmoulds are present over the ground floor windows, while the first floor has three-light mullioned windows in each bay. The rear elevation is arranged with 4:3:4 bays and includes shallow segmental brick arches over the original sash windows, which retain their glazing bars. A central projection on the rear has a low-pitched gable with a lunette. Ground floor lean-to extensions are also visible on the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
