Description
Rosemorran House and its front garden walls are a house or cottage ornée, dating to the late 18th century, or possibly a late 18th-century remodelling and extension. The house is constructed of painted rubble walls, with some granite dressings and rendered cob walls. It has a wheat-reed thatched roof, reputedly the longest in Cornwall, with brick chimneys over the gable ends and cross walls. A section of the rear outshuts is covered with scantle slate, while another section has corrugated asbestos. The house’s plan consists of a long range of five rooms, with a central entrance and porch. A second room from the left is a full height, and originally featured a plaster barrel ceiling. The building exhibits Gothic style features. C19 outshuts are present at the rear. The south front has an irregular façade of seven windows. Most windows are C19 sashes with glazing bars or two-light casements, while the first-floor windows are dormered with arched heads. A sash window to the right of the main doorway has pointed lights, and a full-height, pointed-arched window is found in the third bay from the left. The porch has an arched doorway, lancet windows, and scrolled kneelers to a coped gable. Interior features include an 18th-century eared chimneypiece, some two-panel doors, a plaster barrel ceiling in the chamber to the right of the entrance, and a Chinoiserie door in the right-hand chamber. High rubble walls define the garden on both sides; the left-hand wall has granite coping and crow-steps where it returns at the front.
