Description

This building in East Looe likely originated as fisherman’s stores, and is now a wine bar. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th century. The walls are of rubble construction, featuring oak lintels, and the front is painted rubble. The roof is of rag slate, including some original crested clay ridge tiles, with a polygonal hipped front. The building has a deep plan and two storeys. The front is irregular, with two first-floor windows on the right. The narrower window to the right is positioned over a wide, splayed corner. The windows and doors are 20th century replacements. A central wide doorway provides access to the premises, with a pair of doors. A first-floor doorway is located on the left, accessed by a 20th-century external wooden staircase. The right-hand return wall has three ground-floor windows. The interior features 17th or 18th century oak cross beams and joists on the ground floor; the upper floors were not inspected.
