Description
The Water Rail and The Flower Pot is a small town house located on Lower Market Street in East Looe, dating from the 17th century. It features roughcast render on a steep asbestos slate roof, with an original raking dormer that breaks the eaves on the right side. The building has a double-depth plan and stands three storeys tall, with the second floor partly in the roof space. The front has a three-window range on the first floor, which includes a narrow central window that was inserted in the 20th century. The windows are primarily 18th century and early 19th century 16-pane hornless sashes, except for a horned copy on the left side of the first floor and an original two-light ovolo-moulded wooden mullioned window on the right side of the second floor, which is paired with an early 19th century centre-hung casement that has glazing bars. The doorway on the right features an 18th century six-panel door, with all panels later glazed, and is topped by a 20th century slate hood supported by brackets.
Inside, there is a chamfered granite fireplace lintel that has been resited and inverted, chamfered oak ceiling joists, a winder stair on the right, and evidence of a reduced window opening on the front left. The roof structure has not been inspected.
