Description
The Leather Workshop is a building located on Quay Street in East Looe, dating from the 17th century. Originally thought to be fisherman's stores, it now functions as a shop. The structure is built from rubble and features stop-chamfered oak lintels, topped with a steep rag slate roof. It has a deep plan and is oriented end-on to the street. The building is two storeys high with a one-window range. A 20th-century window is positioned in a small opening above the original doorway, which has a 20th-century door.
Inside, the floor is partly slate-flagged and partly cobbled, with stop-chamfered oak joists that are open to wide floorboards. At the rear, there is a small oak two-light mullioned window and what is believed to be a sounding hole used for signaling in connection with smuggling activities.
