Description

A shippon, likely dating to the late 18th or early 19th century, stands approximately 100 metres north east of Heligan House. The building is constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings and quoins, topped with a hipped roof covered in asbestos slate and featuring ridge tiles. The rectangular plan includes a loft space above. The symmetrical front elevation features nine bays. All ground floor openings are arched, with cambered stone arches and projecting keystones; the voussoirs of the arches form a continuous band. A central doorway is now blocked, with a 12-pane window on each side. Double doorways with plank doors flank the right side, accompanied by another 12-pane window and single doorways at the outer ends of the right side. A ground floor doorway and an 8-pane window above are located at the right end, while the left end and rear of the building are entirely blank. The interior of the shippon has not been inspected.
