Description

Higher Crockett Farmhouse is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the late 17th century with later additions and alterations. The building features painted slate-stone with granite quoins, and the left gable end is slate-hung. It has a slate roof and a basic L-plan layout, with a gabled range at the rear on the right that was heightened in the 20th century. The farmhouse has two storeys and includes three late 19th-century casement windows with wood lintels directly below the eaves, as well as late 19th-century casements on the ground floor—one with a flat stone lintel to the left of the entrance and another with a segmental brick head to the right. A prominent late 20th-century gabled glazed porch is located immediately to the left of centre, above a 19th-century boarded door with a glazed panel at the top. The farmhouse has integral end stacks, which have been rebuilt in painted brick above a dripstone, with the right stack featuring a semi-circular bread oven projection. There is a 19th-century lean-to at the rear on the left, which is slate-hung on the left side. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey in November 1987, but the right ground-floor room was noted to have chamfered joists and a large open fireplace with straight-cut stops to the chamfered wood lintel.
