Description
Higher South Coombe is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the mid to late 18th century, with some minor later additions and alterations. It is constructed of roughly coursed slate-stone with granite quoins, and features slate hanging on the first floor of the left gable end, topped by a slate roof. The building has two storeys and a three-window front, with late 19th-century casements, all of which are two-light except for one three-light window located in the lower right, set within 18th-century openings that have wedged slate voussoirs. The central entrance is a late 20th-century six-panel door situated in an 18th-century opening, featuring the same head as the windows. There are integral rendered end stacks with slate drips. To the right gable end, there is a two-storey lean-to, and at the rear, a full-length catslide outshut. Inside, the right ground-floor room, which was originally two rooms but has been combined into one, includes a large open granite fireplace with two cloam ovens. The lean-to features a large open fireplace on the right wall with a red brick segmental arch and a cloam oven.
