Description
This is a village house, originally one dwelling, now divided into two houses at 10 and 12 Newport Square, Launceston. The core of the building dates to the 17th century. The front is stuccoed over a rubble base, with painted rubble visible at the rear wing. Some slatehanging and weatherboarding are present on the upper storey. The steeply pitched roof is covered in rag slate, with rendered rubble end stacks topped with slate pots.
The house has a single-depth plan, with later outshuts and a rear wing projecting at a right angle to the rear right. The two storeys are arranged with a three-window front. No. 10 (left) has two 3-light casement windows. No. 12 has three late 19th-century six-pane sash windows. A 20th-century door is in place at No. 10, while a panelled door is found at No. 12, sheltered by an early to mid-19th-century latticed porch with a pointed-arched doorway and a tented roof.
The interior of No. 10 has no visible early features, though it is believed to retain an original oak roof structure. No. 12 is described as having many old and interesting features.
