Description
No 36, Lawrence is a shop with accommodation above, likely built in the mid 19th century, although it may have earlier origins. The building is constructed from stuccoed stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends and a brick stack on the left side. It has a particularly deep plan with several 19th-century extensions at the rear.
The exterior is two stories tall with a regular three-window front. The late 19th-century shop front includes an entrance to the right of center and three large plate glass windows, with a 20th-century door set back. The first floor has three large hornless 12-pane sash windows from the 19th century, each with moulded architraves. Above, there is a moulded cornice with a parapet.
Inside, the shop was remodeled in the 20th century. There is a mid-19th-century stair located at the rear left, featuring a wreathed rail and stick balusters, which is illuminated by a 19th-century circular turretted roof light.
