Description

The Conservative Club, formerly a house, likely dates back to the 18th century and was remodelled in the 19th century. The building is constructed of stuccoed stone rubble and has a slate roof with a hipped end on the left and a half-hipped end on the right.

Originally designed with a single depth, two-room and cross-passage layout, it was heated by end stacks and extended to the rear right with an 18th-century service wing, creating an overall 'L' shape. Further 19th-century extensions were added to the rear.

The front of the building is symmetrical, with two windows. A central 19th-century door is framed by a moulded architrave. Early 19th-century hornless 16-pane sash windows occupy both the ground and first floors, with the right-hand windows having moulded architraves. Dormers with 20th-century windows light the attic. A lower wing extends to the rear left, featuring 19th and 20th-century windows.

The entrance hall features a plaster cornice with an egg and dart motif dating to the early 19th century. A staircase, also dating to the early to mid-19th century, and a 20th-century chimney-piece are located in the left-hand room. The interior was not fully inspected.
