Description

Higher Denzell Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the mid to late 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations and additions. It is constructed from slatestone rubble with stone dressings and features slate roofs with ridge tiles and gable ends. The building has an unusual asymmetrical design, consisting of a two-storey block on the left and a three-storey block on the right, resembling a tower. This block has a two-span roof with a stack at each end, featuring brick shafts. There is also a single-storey wing at the right end, likely used for service, which was originally heated from a rear lateral stack. A 20th-century single-storey addition is located at the front left.

The exterior displays an idiosyncratic Gothic style. The two-storey block on the left has a single-storey 20th-century addition at the front. At the first-floor level, there is a structure resembling a midstrey, featuring open pointed arches on the sides and a hipped roof, with a 20th-century three-light window inside. There are two-light windows on both sides, each with a rusticated rubble pointed arch above. Buttresses on the right and left have a pierced pointed arch in the buttress on the left. A two-light casement window is present at ground floor level on the right.

The three-storey block to the right has a small casement window at ground floor, a three-light casement window at first floor with a four-centred rubble arch, and a triple lancet window at the second floor, with the central light being taller. The single-storey block at the end right features a three-light window with a segmental arch at ground floor and a loft above with two tall gabled dormers, each containing casements. The gable end on the right has a loading door with a segmental arch. At the rear, there is random fenestration, and the stack behind the single-storey block has been truncated. The interior is not accessible.
