Description

MAWGAN-IN-PYDAR SW 86 NE 1/66 Lawrey's Mill 13.2.80 II

Mill; formerly a fulling or tucking mull, later used as a cottage. C18, with few later alterations. Painted stone rubble. Slate roof with ridge tiles and gable ends. Gable end stack to left with brick shaft. Axial stack to right with rubble shaft and brick top. Plan: The main range is of 2-room plan, with the room to left heated from the gable end stack and the room to right heated from the axial stack. There is an unheated front wing of 1-room plan to right. Exterior: 2 storeys, asymmetrical front with the wing to right. The main range has 2 casements at first floor, sash and casement at ground floor, all blocked with corrugated iron at time of survey (May 1987). The wing has a blocked door and window at ground floor and blocked window at first floor. The left gable end has a blocked door. The right side has 2 windows at first floor and small C20 lean-to to right. Interior: Not accessible. Lawrey's Mill was formerly known as Carnanton Mill.
