Description
The East Lawn Summer House, located about 40 metres southeast of Mount Edgcumbe House, is a summer house dating from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of stuccoed stone and features a rectangular plan with a single storey and an open front. The front has a three-bay arcade with moulded round arches, supported by Tuscan columns and pilasters on either side. It is topped with a cornice and a parapet that includes a balustrade and dies.
Inside, there is a cornice and a niche at the rear that holds a Roman-style figure of a female. To the left and right of the summer house, there are Roman pedestals adorned with rams' heads at the corners. The structure is complemented by low flanking walls that lead up to the front with four steps, which also feature pedestals with urns. The walls curve around to enclose an elliptical area in front of the summer house, forming a low plinth with four additional urns on pedestals.
