Description

The Old Cottage is a late 17th or early 18th century cottage, constructed of granite rubble with granite dressings. It has a wheat-reed thatched roof and an original granite chimney situated over the shared wall on the left-hand side, with a gable end on the right. Originally, the cottage comprised two ground floor rooms and chambers located mostly within the roof space. A later service room was built at right angles, situated behind the left-hand side. The south front features ground floor openings only, including a small window on the left and a doorway positioned right of the middle. Inside, original 18th century ceiling beams are present, along with an original hardwood roof structure incorporating pegged collars and apices. A large fireplace is found in the left-hand room.
