Description

The French Gun Battery, located at the north west corner of St Michael's Mount, is a gun battery that likely dates from the early 19th century. It features a cobbled platform supported by a dressed granite and granite rubble embattled retaining wall and parapet. The platform is situated in the north west outer angle of the castle, with the outer wall forming an obtuse angle that includes three embrasures on each side. The battery was equipped with cannons salvaged from a French frigate that ran aground during the Napoleonic Wars.
