Description
Nos. 83 and 84 Lemon Street are two townhouses with shops, built in the early 19th century. The front is finished in stucco on studwork, and the building has a dry Delabole slate roof with brick end stacks. Originally designed as a double-depth plan, the structure was altered in the late 19th century to create two shops. It stands three storeys tall and features a two-window range on the front. The original windows are hornless sashes with glazing bars, while No. 84 has wide tripartite sashes set within moulded wooden architraves. No. 83 has a 20th-century double shop front with terminal pilasters, consoles, and a moulded cornice. In contrast, No. 84 features a late 19th-century shop front with a slender turned central mullion and terminal jambs flanking a doorway with ogee-on-plan sidelights on the left, along with a single-light window and scrolled heads on the spandrels. The fascia includes a blind and a moulded cornice supported by slender pilasters. The interiors of the shops have been modernised and were otherwise not inspected.
