Description

This is a headstone for John Mellow, located in the churchyard about 9 metres from the south aisle of the Church of St Stephen. It dates from the early 19th century and is made of granite, featuring a slate inscription tablet. The headstone is rectangular with a swept centrepiece topped by a flat ball finial that has a carved flower. Each side has a lower rounded finial with a carved quatrefoil design. The inscription tablet is rebated and displays good lettering, created by W. Grigg of St Stephen, and commemorates John Mellow, who passed away in 1834.
