Description
Hesselwood Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, with an extension added in the early 19th century. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a rag slate roof with gable ends and a parallel range to the rear left. The building has end stacks with short brick shafts.
The layout consists of a two-room and passage plan, with the entrance located slightly to the left of the center. The larger hall kitchen is on the right, while the smaller parlour is on the left, both of which are heated by end stacks. In the early 19th century, a two-storey service range was added to the rear left of the house.
The exterior is two storeys high and features an almost symmetrical front with two windows and an entrance to the left of center. There is a 20th-century open porch, with a 19th-century two-light casement window to the left and a 19th-century 16-pane sash window to the right. On the first floor, there is a 19th-century two-light casement window and a 19th-century 16-pane sash window. The interior has not been inspected.
